Amanda by Mélanie DUCHAUSSOY
A monotype is a hidden writing. It curves, takes shape. Born from an imprint, it lies down on the bed of the press. My series reveal snippets of stories, memories. A narrative hook made up of small facts, pebbles transformed into rough figurines. Drawing allows this, a description that goes beyond the limits of the visible: it 'writes' Time. My characters are created with an economy of gestures aimed at bringing out the essence of the form without concern for setting or perspective. The only thing that matters to me is the feeling of a story that needs to be told. The works, in their expressions, speak to us of a memory; there is a sense of disappearance, a feeling of alteration. The beauty is not perfect but "nibbled away at"; it limps slightly and, with its clattering, reminds us of an inner hourglass. Mélanie Duchaussoy
