Duo du ciel by Mélanie DUCHAUSSOY
Surface texture plays a key role in her work. Mélanie Duchaussoy favours understated, mineral-like glazes, sometimes matt, sometimes satin-finished, which reveal the natural texture of the clay. The shades — nuanced whites, stone grey, ash or clay tones — interact subtly with the light and reinforce the sculptural character of her pieces. The firing process lies at the heart of her artistic approach. Fire acts as an unpredictable partner, capable of transforming form and surface, and introducing an element of deliberate randomness. This relationship with fire gives each work a unique character, making every ceramic piece singular.
