In painting, Étienne Gros begins by gluing paper onto the canvas (marouflage), which he then covers with bright colors such as red, blue, or orange. These flat areas are polished and sanded before human forms emerge.
 The bodies depicted in his works are often fragmented, faceless, and evoke a soft and powerful sensuality. Color acts like a photographic filter, highlighting certain parts of the body.
